Magazine Playlist Behaviour

A magazine’s playlist can behave in a couple of ways: it can loop continuously within its time range, or it can play only once during its time range.

To set this behavior, right click on the magazine, and select Properties > Advanced.

Loop Playlist for duration of time range

The Loop Playlist option plays the entire playlist continuously, rather than stopping after playing once. After it plays its last page, it will start again at the beginning.

Audience.foundation always remembers which page was last played in a playlist, so that if a playlist is interrupted, when it restarts it can continue the playlist where it left off, or it can start it over again from the beginning.

You determine when the playlist starts playing at the beginning:

  • Playlist reaches the end
The playlist will always continue playing where it last left off. If it is interrupted, or if it begins playing because of a scheduled time range, it will remember the last page it played, and play the next one in the playlist. In other words, the magazine’s playlist will never skip over pages to start at the beginning.
  • Playlist reaches the end OR start of a new time range
The magazine’s playlist will always continue where it last left off unless it begins a new scheduled time range, in which case it will start playing the playlist from the beginning.
  • Playlist reaches the end OR after it is interrupted.
The magazine’s playlist will always continue where it last left off unless it is interrupted; in which case it will resume from the beginning playlist.
  • Playlist reaches the end or start of a new time range or after it is interrupted
The playlist will always start by playing the first page in its playlist. It will not continue where it last left off.

Play Playlist only once per time range

Instead of playing continuously (looping), the playlist will only play once.

Important: If your magazine is set to 'play once', the magazine’s scheduled duration must be identical to, or greater than, the duration of the playlist, otherwise the playlist will cut off at the end. If the duration is greater, then Audience will play the next priority magazine when the playlist ends.

Playlist Behaviour

You can also set the behaviour of a magazine’s playlist to loop (play continuously) or to play only once during its time range. If the magazine is set to play once, it will play all the content of the magazine once, or until the time range of the magazine expires, whichever comes first, then drop down to the next lower priority magazine. At the next time range for the magazine, it will repeat the play once behavior.
